Meaning of Iman |
Identity
The word iman (%) is derived from the root amnun (1). Which means to believe, to trust, to recognize, to rely on, to accept etc. In Islamic terms, believing in all the rules of the Shari'ah in the heart, accepting with the mouth and acting accordingly is called Iman. Rasulullah (s.a.) said about the identity of Iman-
Meaning: Iman is - "Belief in Allah, His Angels, Books, Messengers, Hereafter and Fate (good and bad are from Allah Ta'ala)." (Muslim)
In fact, complete belief in the fundamentals of Islam is called Iman. The fundamentals of Iman are elaborately described in the Word of Allah Al-Quran and the Holy Hadith of Rasulullah (SAW).
In Imane Mufassal the fundamentals of Iman are described together. For example-
Meaning: "I believe in Allah, in His angels, in His books, in His messengers, in the Hereafter, in destiny whose good and bad is from Allah Ta'ala, and in resurrection after death."
One cannot be honest without strong trust and faith in the things mentioned. He who puts full faith in them is called a believer.
The relationship between Iman and Islam
Iman and Islam are two very important terms. Iman means faith. Sincere belief in the fundamentals of Islam, oral acceptance and acting accordingly is called Iman. On the other hand Islam means surrender, obedience etc. Islam is the name of complete surrender to Allah Almighty by accepting all his commands and prohibitions without hesitation.
A very close and inseparable relationship exists between Iman and Islam. One of them cannot be imagined without the other. One of them is deeply dependent on the other. The relationship between Iman and Islam is like the root and branches of a tree. Iman is the root of the tree and Islam is its branch. If there is no root, there are no branches. And if there are no branches, the root or root is worthless. Similarly, Iman and Islam are not complete without each other. Iman creates in the hearts of people faith in Allah, affection and desire to gain His pleasure. And through worship and obedience, Islam became alive and fresh and developed in full beauty. Islam is an expression of faith. Iman is related to the heart. And Islam is concerned with outward conduct and deeds. For example, belief in Allah, Rasul, Angels, etc. is faith. And observing Salat, Zakat, Hajj etc. is Islam.
In fact, Iman and Islam are complementary to each other. In order to achieve success in this world and the hereafter, both Iman and Islam must be fully implemented in one's life.
The seven pillars of Iman
Iman means faith. A Muslim must firmly believe in the fundamentals of Iman. These are irrefutably proven by Al-Quran and Hadith. No one can be a believer or a Muslim without belief in these things. There are a total of 7 such subjects. These are-
1. Belief in Allah
The first and most important aspect of Iman is belief in Allah Ta'ala. Allah Ta'ala is One and Unique. There is no God but Him. He is the Creator, Sustainer of all things
protector He is the reservoir of all qualities. His being and attributes are incomparable. All praise and worship is reserved for Him alone. Such belief in Allah Ta'ala is the most important aspect of Iman.
2. Belief in angels
Angels are a special creation of God Almighty. They are made of light. They are always engaged in the worship and commandment of Allah Ta'ala. Their number is countless. They are neither women nor men. They are free from food and biological needs. Having such faith in them is part of Iman.
3. Belief in heavenly books
The heavenly books are the words of Allah. Through these, Allah Ta'ala has given his identity to people. Various orders and prohibitions, rules and regulations, good news, warnings etc. also came through them. Allah Ta'ala has sent these books to His Messengers. A total of 104 heavenly books have been revealed in the world. All these books must be trusted.
4. Belief in Prophets
Allah Ta'ala has sent many prophets and messengers throughout the ages for the guidance of mankind. The Prophets were the chosen servants of Allah Ta'ala. They have the highest status among all creations. They were innocent. By the command of Allah Ta'ala, they have called the human race to the path of the Almighty Allah, shown the path of truth and justice, and provided guidance for peace and liberation in this and the next. Having such faith in the Prophets is one of the most important aspects of Iman.
5. Belief in the hereafter
The hereafter is the hereafter. The life hereafter is eternal. This life has a beginning but no end. There people have to give an account of all the activities of the life of the world. Grave, Hashar, Mizan, Sirat, Jannat, Jahannam etc. are one stage of life in the hereafter. People will get paradise if they do good work in this world. And if you don't believe, if you do bad deeds, the place of people will be hell, a place of great punishment.
Belief in the Hereafter is essential.
6. Belief in fate
Taqdi means destiny, fate or destiny. Allah Ta'ala is the controller of human destiny. He is the decider of destiny. He cannot do whatever he wants. Rather, people will only strive for their work. Then trust in Allah for the result. Don't be disappointed if you don't get anything after trying. And even if you get it, you will not lose yourself in happiness. Instead, he will have patience and show gratitude. And the good or bad of fate is in the hands of Allah Ta'ala alone, it is very important to believe in the heart and soul.
7. Belief in resurrection after death
Human life does not end with death. Rather, human life is divided into two parts. This life and the hereafter. This is the life of the world. And the afterlife is the life after death. Allah Ta'ala will bring people back to life after death. At that time all the people will gather in Hashar Maidan. Allah Ta'ala will judge all the deeds of people on that day. Then man will be admitted to Paradise as a reward for his good deeds and Hell as a punishment for his bad deeds. So believing that we will all be resurrected after death is an essential aspect of Iman.
